Photonics in 2D-Materials. The Junior Research Group Photonics in 2D-Materials is dedicated to the understanding of light-matter-interaction in atomically thin layers of nanomaterials, to the tailoring of their optical response on the femtosecond scale, and to leverage their properties for applications in Photonics. Some examples for these.

An Irish PhD usually takes 3-4 years. Traditional doctorates focus primarily on independent research; structured programmes include additional classes and a greater focus on transferable skills. Most students initially register for an MPhil degree before upgrading to the status of PhD candidate and completing their thesis.

MXenes are a new family of two-dimensional (2D) transition metal carbides, carbonitrides and nitrides that were discovered and developed in collaboration with Prof. Barsoum’s group, that can be used in many applications. These applications include lithium-ion and sodium-ion energy storage systems, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and water purification.

The Phd candidate will seek to identify the key points of this type of device and to improve our understanding of the mechanisms involved, especially when switching. It will develop the methods of transfer of the material into the device and seek to optimize the electrical contact between the 2D materials and the metal electrodes.

The department has a strong research record, and is particularly proud of its mix of fundamental research coupled with industrial relevance and interaction. The department offers opportunities for study in the fields of casting and solidification of metals, ceramic processes and properties, corrosion, composite material processing and properties, hydrometallurgy and electrorefining, physical.

The aim of this thesis is the study of electronic transport and mechanical properties of materials using computer simulations. In particular, we dealt with the charge transport in semiconduc- tor and metallic samples and with the peeling of a graphene layer from bulk graphite. The computational methods used to investigate the samples are (i) the Monte Carlo (MC) statis- tical method to.

New 2D materials Furnace installed We have just installed a new metal organic chemical vapor deposition furnace from PlanarTECH inside the MNTL cleanroom. We helped PlanarTECH design the MOCVD system so that we can simultaneously test growth of new experimental 2D materials, vary the chemistry during growth to produce alloys and.
